Stat Conversions

This is how to convert the 8 Megaverse Attributes into BESM Stats. This is not an easy, let alone quick, method for converting a character. This assumes that the Megaverse character has been entirely built and all bonuses accounted for. Take the Megaverse Attributes of IQ, ME, MA, PS, PP, PE and PB, and compare it to the appropriate table to create the corresponding Stat Aspect. These Stat Aspects are used to find the base stat and any attributes or defects to match. Speed requires the Body Stat to be determined first.

PS becomes the Body Strength Aspect (BS), with the attributes of Super Strength, and Not So Strong as modifiers.
PP becomes the Body Dexterity Aspect (BP), with Combat Mastery and Inept Combat as modifiers.
PE becomes the Body Endurance Aspect (BE), with Damn Healthy and Not So Tough as modifiers.
Speed becomes the Body Dexterity Aspect (BP), with Ground Speed and Not So Fast as modifiers.

If the Super Strength Attribute is taken, then only BD and BE are used for Stat determination.

There are several methods that can be used to mimic the Megaverse Attribute scores spread for a character.
If the Stat Aspects have the same BESM Stat number, then that is the BESM Stat.
The 2 basic methods are the “Average” method and the “Extremes” method.
The Average method takes the average of the Aspect Scores, and then uses the appropriate Attribute or Defect to compensate.
Ex. PS 12, PP 17, PE 9 becomes BS 5, BD 6, BE 4. Body Stat is 5.

Ex. with Super Strength Supernatural PS 24, PP 14, PE 21 becomes Super Strength 1, BD 5, BE 7.
Average of BD and BE is 6.
Option 1 is use Body Stat of 6, Super Strength 1 for a total of 9 points.
Option 2 is use Body Stat of 6, Super Strength 1, Damn Health 1, Inept Combat 1 for a total of 9 points.

The Extremes methods use the highest or lowest of the Aspect Scores.

Extreme High uses the highest score and then uses the appropriate Defects to compensate.
Ex. PS 12, PP 17, PE 9 becomes BS5 , BD 6, BE 4. Body Stat is 6. To compensate, the player takes Not So Strong 1 and Not So Tough 1 for a total of 4 points.

Ex. with Super Strength Supernatural PS 24, PP 14, PE 21 becomes Super Strength 1, BD 5, BE 7. Body Stat is 7. To compensate, the player takes Inept Combat 1 for a total of 9 points.

Extreme Low uses the lowest score and then uses the appropriate Attributes to compensate.
Ex. PS 12, PP 17, PE 9 becomes BS 5, BD 6, BE 4. Body Stat is 4. To compensate, the player takes Combat Master 1 or 2 for a total of 6-8 points.
Ex. with Super Strength Supernatural PS 24, PP 14, PE 21 becomes Super Strength 1, BD 5, BE 7. Body Stat is 5. To compensate, the player takes Damn Healthy 1 for a total of 9 points.

More than likely, the player will choose the method that has the lowest point cost. Once the Body Stat has been determined, Speed can be converted.

Physical Strength reference chart

The conversion of Physical Strength from a Megaverse System game to BESM is not as straight forward as one might think. There are several issues that cause this.
Legacy Issues
Palladium Books has been around for a long time, has done several different versions and revisions to its games. In most cases this makes it easier to convert from one game to another There are effectively 3 different iterations of Ordinary Physical Strength for lifting and carrying multipliers. One in use by Robotech, and Ninjas and Superspies, and Mystic China (RT, NS, MC) , one in Palladium Fantasy and Nightbane (PFRPG, NB, HU) , and a variation of the second used by Rifts, Macross II, Splicers, Dead Reign, and Heroes Unlimited (Rifts, M2, S, DR,).

Compounding this problem are 7 other different Physical Strength levels, these being Augmented, Robot (Rifts, S), Giant Robot (Rifts), Extraordinary (HU), Superhuman (HU), Supernatural (HU), and Supernatural (Rifts, M2, S). Yes, there are two versions Supernatural Strength.

The Conversions Book offers the following, Extraordinary becomes Augmented, Superhuman becomes Robotic, and Supernatural becomes Supernatural. This is for determining how much MD a character can cause, but the lifting and carrying multipliers are off by orders of magnitude.

In essence, the one Megaverse attribute that should be the most concrete and universal is not.

BESM, by comparison, has only 2 forms of strength. The one provided by the Body Stat, and the attribute Super Strength. While this simplifies things, it does not allow for as much variance.

The main method to be employed is to determine the character’s lifting weight and use that weight to determine Strength.

For the purposes of this conversion, a BESM character can lift 65lbs per point of Body Stat.

Lifting weight BESM Body Stat
0-65 1
66-130 2
131-195 3
196-260 4
261-325 5
326-390 6
391-455 7
456-520 8
521-585 9
586-650 10
651-715 11
716-780 12

The absolute weight is set by the GM based on the character's original lifting weight.

Lifting BESM Super Strength
Up to 1,000lbs 1
Up to 4,000lbs 2
Up to 20,000lbs 3
Up to 100,000lbs 4
Up to 500,000lbs 5
Up to 2,000,000lbs 6

Speed
Take the Megaverse character’s speed in km/hour and divide by the BESM Body Stat. This is the multiplier that needs to be found. If greater than 5, compare the Speed attribute levels to find something comparable.
Ex: a Megaverse character, after all physical skills are added up has a Spd of 45. 45 x 20 meters a minute x 60 minutes an hour divided by 1000 meters per kilometer is 54 km/hr. If the same character has a BESM Body stat of 5, then 54 divided by 5 is almost 11. This multiplier is Speed levels 2 (x 10,) and 3 (x15), making the top speed either 50 kph or 75kph. Since the character speed in PB is 54 kph, then Speed level 3 will give the character a slight boost.
The same speed stat with a Body Stat of 6, makes it 54 divided 6, and the multiplier 9. This multiplier is between Speed levels 1 (x 7) and 2 (x10), making the top speed either 42 kph or 60 kph. Since the character speed in PB is 54 kph, then Speed level 2 will give the character a significant boost.
If a PB character has a speed of 15 (who needs physical skills?) but still has an equivalent BESM Body stat of 5. 15 x 20 x 60/1000 is 18 kph. 18/5 is 3.6, which is less than the standard multiplier of 5. NOt So fast 1 drops the multiplier to 4, while Not So Fast 2 drops the multiplier to 2.
